About Us – (A brief history)
High Quality Laser Shows & Products
Since 1978, AVI has been the leader in creating educational and entertaining laser light shows for planetarium theaters, amusement parks, corporate, sporting and special events worldwide. AVI has pioneered some of the most innovative, artistic and technical techniques for the laser entertainment industry.
Highlights of Innovations
In 1983, AVI was the first laser company to use sequential animation in planetarium laser shows.
In 1988, AVI introduced the world to ChromaDepth 3-D laser shows for special event and domed theaters.
In 1990, AVI also developed and patented Omniscan, full-dome (360 x 180 degree) full color laser projection technology. Expanding on our patented technology, we developed LaserGlobe for presenting laser shows filling an entire giant spherical balloon from one projector inside the mouth of the balloon. Utilizing the same patent, we developed Discoscan for exciting 360 degree mid-air laser beam effects.
In 1993, AVI created the first fulldome classical 2D animation, Legends of the Night Sky: Orion.
In 2010, AVI produced the first modular, interactive digital planetarium show for children, The Moon.
In 2018, AVI created Lasers Live!, a collection of midi musical instruments that “create” laser images instead of music.
In 2018, AVI engineered SkyLase FX the first laser projector designed with 14 effect filters to playback all laser shows produced in any format or scan speed.
In 2019, AVI filmed the first laser show in 360 for VR headsets.
Fulldome Video Production
AVI produced the first full-dome 2D animated production, Legends of the Night Sky: Orion. This very popular constellation story was followed by Legends of the Night Sky: Perseus and Andromeda. AVI’s makeover of the popular planetarium show, The Little Star That Could, ushered it into the digital full dome era. AVI’s most recent achievements are the first full-dome modular programs, The Moon and The Weather, designed for live interaction.
